Well, for the past few days, Google has lost the ability to pull values into my spreadsheet to calculate values, so it is harder to know for sure, but right now, I can reasonably confidently say after figuring in all dividends and such that 2016 ended with a 6.17% gain.
2014 4.04% 2015 -3.26% 2016 6.17%
Next couple weeks will rebalance.
Happy New Year! 14% was nice, but I will take 6.17%

After all of the turmoil of 2016, 6.17% is great. I am impressed.

It looks like I had 5.4% for 2016.
The past 5 years are pretty anemic compared to the S&P 500. 2013 was really bad. A small loss for me, and 33% up for the 500.

Happy New Year! 14% was nice, but I will take 6.17% That's 2.3% per year before accounting for inflation. It doesn't even consider the costs of gold purchase and storage. I get that return from my safe CD.

Last value, 48.2% (those values are 2007 to 2016 respective/inclusive) Can I ask what non-PP investing methods have gotten you a 48% return?

69% came from 'US stock' via tax efficient blend of volatility (XIV), gold, US stock holdings. Around 30% of that was a consequence of FX. Rest of portfolio served as a drag by comparison.
