This is just a temporary backup forum. Don't get any ideas, people! But the subject title says it's our new forum.

And why do I feel that the tentacles of tyranny are now gone?

What's wrong with my avatar?? This avatar is fun b/c it's creepy and so different from you. Still... My top choices for Reub's avatar: - The Thing (from Fantastic Four) - What appears to be the logo of a Belgian UFO research org. (Not sure, I don't really speak French). - A hard hat with air traffic control ear protectors - This guy: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reub_Long

Wow, the place the guy lived in is like an alternative reality! They have a single K-12 school that serves 260 students from the surrounding areas. I bet the area is more authentic Old West than the faux cowboy schtick of Texas. Well, at least when The Really Big One hits, they'll survive by being east of the Cascades. I'm gonna get his book and read it.

Although this was quite touching:
…"You can usually get along if you aren't a specialist. Nowadays men list their jobs as "freight car wheel inspectors" or "bottle fillers," and if those particular jobs aren't available, the men are eligible for unemployment checks. My only way to check unemployment was to go to work - it beat hunger quite a bit, even if the work is out of one's line. So I cooked, trapped, freighted, wrangled dudes, trained horses, lambed sheep - just anything there was to do. I learned to do lots of things, but some of the things aren't of much use to me now - for example, how to put a six- or eight-horse team around a sharp bend. But some are real useful. What you learn from horses helps in dealing with humans. A horse is good for a boy or a man. It helps something inside of him. A man trained by a horse for many years is never quite the same afterward, and is better." “ ”

Thanks for setting this up, MG. It's great to see the crew powering through the technical difficulties. BTW, I added a link to the Portfolio Charts home page to hopefully help redirect people here. Outstanding Tyler! BTW dualstow: Nice re-invented screen name. It took me a couple minutes to figure out it was you!

Someone should post a similar detour in bogleheads or something. I wrote to Tyler, so his and my work are done. (Rubs hands together twice)

Does anyone know how to get a hold of PS? He was the most prolific poster.

I tried to look up his old 3D printing company (Paladin?), but I think it's defunct.
